The Living Pearl Home
Established in 2011, Living Pearl is Global Impact’s home providing full-time residential care in a family environment to abandoned, abused and orphaned children in the Ukraine.
In Ukraine, the number of abandoned babies and children is severe with estimates of over 100,000 children living in state run institutions. Shockingly, because of poverty, alcoholism, disability and war, many children are abandoned at birth in the maternity ward. The nurses do their best to give basic temporary care to the baby, but it’s not a home. Such is the case with the first child to enter Living Pearl. He was only a few months old living in a small medical clinic when Pastor Sasha of Church of the Living God in Onufrievka, Ukraine took Pastor Amy in 2011 to visit Zhenya. As Amy held Zhenya in her arms, she knew now was the time to launch Living Pearl children’s home.

Vision For The Home
The vision for the home had been in her heart since her first ministry trip to Ukraine in 1997 when God spoke a very clear instruction directly into her heart “Start homes for the abandoned, abused, orphaned, exploited and needy.” Pastor Amy shared the vision with Pastor Sasha, and they both agreed to pray and prepare. Over the years Pastor Sasha adopted children into his own family home learning to father “children of the heart.”
Pastor Amy through Global Impact launched programs to support children living in orphanages in Asia. There are many stories that would tear your heart out of what these “pearls” have gone through, but the hardship and pain of their past is not how we see them, instead they are treated as treasures, truly Living Pearls!
Testimonies
Living Pearl Children’s Home is home to some of the most beautiful gems in Ukraine! When Pastor Amy initially mentioned visiting Living Pearl I was hesitant because of past experiences with visiting orphanages where children were treated like burdens and seemingly unloved, but as soon as we pulled onto the property every hesitation went away!I could tell from the start that these children are loved and they love much in return! Our whole team was flooded with endless hugs and “Hellos.” None of us speak or understand Ukrainian but that didn’t stop them from asking us questions in Ukrainian and being interested in what we were doing there!
The privilege of spending 3 months with the children at Living Pearl opened my eyes to how simple it can be to make a big difference in the life of a child. Ukraine’s endemic corruption breeds crippling poverty, worsened by the war started in 2014. Regardless of their circumstances the children were always so happy and well-cared for. The hard-working staff strived to create a home where children could feel safe and loved. Sometimes all a child needs is that extra big push on the swing to brighten both your days. Seeing the remarkable change in the new arrivals over those 3 months I also realised how a little financial support can have a lasting impact in Ukraine.
Previously I couldn’t have imagined travelling 10,000 miles to the other side of the world to visit a remote village in Ukraine. I’m now planning many future visits.
